The Department offers the standard chemistry major as well as choices to major in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or Hazardous Materials Management.

Chemistry Major
The standard Chemistry major is comprised of 35 hours of Chemistry, which includes the following.
- General Chemistry – 8 hours
- Organic Chemistry – 8 hours
- Physical Chemistry – 8 hours
- Quantitative Chemistry – 4 hours
- Seminar – 1 hour
- Research – 1 hour
- Chemistry Upper-Level Electives 5 hours.
- General Physics I and II, and Math through Calculus I are also required.
Chemistry with an Emphasis in Biochemistry
The Chemistry major with an Emphasis in Biochemistry requires the following.
- General Chemistry – 8 hours
- Organic Chemistry – 8 hours
- Physical Chemistry – 4 hours
- Quantitative Chemistry – 4 hours
- Seminar (Biochemistry topic) – 1 hour
- Practicum in Clinical Chemistry – 1 hour
- Research (Biochemistry topic) – 1 hour
- Biochemistry – 4 hours
- Chemistry Upper-Level Electives 5 hours.
- General Physics I and II and Math through Calculus I are also required.
The following Biology courses are also required.
- Zoology – 4 hours
- Botany – 4 hours
- Microbiology – 4 hours
- Genetics – 3 hours
- Immunology – 3 hours
- Cell Biology – 4 hours
Chemistry major with an emphasis in Environmental Chemistry
Chemistry major with an emphasis in Environmental Chemistry requires the following.
- General Chemistry – 8 hours
- Organic Chemistry – 4 hours
- Physical Chemistry – 4 hours
- Quantitative Chemistry – 4 hours
- Seminar (Environmental Chemistry Topic) – 1 hour
- Research (Environmental Chemistry Topic) – 1 hour
- Environmental Chemistry – 4 hours
- Environmental Issues – 3 hours
- Advanced Analytical Chemistry – 4 hours
- Chemistry Upper-Level Electives - 3 hours.
- General Physics I and II and Math through Calculus I are also required.
Students also must take the following Biology courses.
- Zoology – 4 hours
- Botany – 4 hours
- Ecology – 4 hours
- Two additional Biology courses or one additional Biology course and Statistics.
Chemistry Major with an Emphasis in Hazardous Materials Management
A Chemistry Major with an Emphasis in Hazardous Materials Management requires the following.
- General Chemistry – 8 hours
- Organic Chemistry – 4 hours
- Physical Chemistry – 4 hours
- Quantitative Chemistry – 4 hours
- Environmental Chemistry – 4 hours
- Seminar (Hazardous Materials Management Topic) – 1 hour
- Research (Hazardous Materials Management Topic) – 1 hour
- Handling Hazardous Materials – 3 hours
- Environmental Issues – 3 hours
- Chemistry Upper-Level Electives 4 hours.
- General Physics I and II and Math through Calculus I and Statistics are also required.
- Required Biology courses are Zoology, Botany, and Ecology.
