Diane Howard is a full, tenured professor in the Dept. of Communication and Media Studies. She is the Director of Performance Studies and Film. Dr. Howard has been on the faculty of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for 23 years. She has developed and directed the Performance Studies and Film programs. UMHB’s Performance Studies program is a leader internationally that addresses communication art historically, universally, and practically. The UMHB Film Program is recognized regionally-nationally. Professor Howard has trained UMHB students for performance and presentation on stage, platform, television, radio, film, and via e-technologies. She has authored three textbooks that the McGraw-Hill Corp. has published. Further, she has broadly published and presented regionally, nationally, and internationally. She is a creative artist, experienced communicator, and active researcher. Dr. Howard has lived and traveled all over the world as a military dependent; military, chaplain's wife; and as a college professor. She has lived in Mainland China, when her father was a military liaison officer to Chiang Kia-shek, before the American military evacuation that occurred during the Communist Revolution. Dr. Howard has resided and traveled throughout the following: Asia, the Hawaiian Islands, Caribbean Islands, Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Europe. She has studied world history and cultural diversity all of her life. Dr. Howard, her students, and alumni are performing artists and communicators who present history and world literature in a broad range of styles and contexts. They are talent and producers of film and visual media in a wide array of venues.

She is married to Dr. David Howard, a Marriage & Family Christian Counseling Professor at UMHB. They have three sons and daughters-in-law. They have seven grandsons.
