Claire Phelan joined UMHB in Fall 2009. She received her B.A. in History, English, and Politics from La Trobe University in Melbourne, and a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from the Australian Defence Force Academy, University of New South Wales. She was later awarded an M.A and Ph.D. in History and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from Texas Christian University. Dr. Phelan’s research interests include the development and role of U.S. Navy squadrons, nineteenth-century Anglo-American relations, and the immigration of War Brides immediately after the conclusion of World War II.
