She is a 1958 graduate of Holland High School in Holland, Texas. After graduation in 1961 she taught home economics at Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas. In the fall of 1966, she began to teach mentally retarded students in the Temple ISD. She entered a graduate program at Baylor University in 1968 and finished her master's degree in 1971. In 1973, she became the Supervisor of Special Education for the Temple ISD. She continued to teach in Temple and teach part-time at UMHB through the fall of 1975, when she was offered a full-time position teaching in the Education Department. She has completed 30 1/2 years here.
