Bio

Dr. Karla González is an Assistant Professor in the Modern Foreign Languages department at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She holds a B.J. in Broadcast News with a concentration in Latin America, a B.A., M.A., and a Ph.D. in Spanish-American Literature with a Portfolio in Mexican-American Studies.  She studies the impact and the literature of immigrant groups in the United States, especially in the Mexican-American community during the Mexican Revolution.

She has extensive Spanish language teaching experience with both traditional students and bilingual/heritage speakers. Her experience also includes providing advanced Spanish language training to business professionals and bilingual speech pathologists at Austin Independent School District.   Dr. González’ career also includes working as a Multicultural Outreach Coordinator for Austin Independent School District, designing programs to promote parental involvement in disadvantaged communities and minority groups.

Dr. González is an active member of the Church of Christ.  She has participated and organized several mission trips and medical campaigns in Mexico where she has also served as an interpreter.  She often travels to Latin America to participate in evangelistic efforts.  She currently serves as a Bible instructor at a Spanish-speaking congregation in Austin where she worships with her family.
