Dr. Larry Woodward
Accounting, Economics and Finance Department
Dr. Woodward has led a very unusual career for a finance professor. He began his working career as a carpenter, then became a journeyman refrigeration technician for many years and was co-owner of a refrigeration service business. Upon leaving the refrigeration business, he served as the director of facilities at San Jose Christian college for several years. In a desire to "make a difference" in young people's lives, he switched from a blue-collar vocation to a white-collar career by obtaining a doctorate in finance with the goal of teaching at the college level. He has taught at the University of Arkansas and for the past 19 years has been at UMHB. Dr. Woodward's experience as a business owner, investor, and in accounting has provided him with a broad base of expertise which he uses for teaching finance, accounting, statistics and economics. Dr. Woodward has received numerous research awards and he has worked with several local businesses in developing models for inventory management and sales forecasting. His published articles cover a wide range of topics including (1) Real Estate; (2) investing in options; (3) sales forecasting; to (4) college retention.
