Student Kudos

Emily Ensley, one of our Biology majors, won first place at the Fall 2017 Watson Scholars' Day poster competition!  The title of her poster was “Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex-related genes are differentially expressed between neonatal and adult cardiomyocytes”.

And congratulations to Joanne Thomson, another of our Biology majors, who won third-place during that same competition! The title of her poster was “Molecular identification of the 18S rDNA for Chlorococcum microgreen algae”.

We are proud of the students in this department so this page is our opportunity to highlight some of their accomplishments, especially in research, and awards over the course of the year. If you know of someone who needs to be mentioned on this page, or if you yourself should be, please contact Dr. Wood with the details. The four Biology Department awards (Outstanding Student in Biology, the Ola Joyce Springer Hander/Lucille Capt Endowed Scholarship, the Genetics Award, and the Dr. Sally A. Provence Presidential Endowed Scholarship) are described, along with the current award recipients, under the "Student Awards" tab to the left.

Joanne Thomson
Spring 2018

Congratulations again this semester to Joanne during the spring Watson Scholars' Day poster competition.  She was the second place winner with her poster entitled “A Pilot Study: Bio-Flocculation of Chlorococcum Microalgae Via Fungal Association”

Analia Trevino-Flitton
Spring 2018

Analia is another one of our biology majors.  The title of Analia’s poster was “Deciphering Zinc Finger Protein Expression in Estrogen Receptor A Silenced MCF7 Breast Cancer Cells Using Bioinformatics Applications” (sponsored by Dr. Joni Ylostalo).
